A met\u00e1fora do reino das sombras e maus esp\u00edritos remete \u00e0 experi\u00eancia origin\u00e1ria de Freud com rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao inconsciente, ao momento inicial da descoberta de que a consci\u00eancia \u00e9 lacunar e descontinua e n\u00e3o recobre toda a extens\u00e3o do psiquismo. Essa met\u00e1fora revela importantes quest\u00f5es relacionadas aos fen\u00f4menos cl\u00ednicos que levaram Freud \u00e0 conceitualiza\u00e7\u00e3o do inconsciente psicanal\u00edtico e anuncia e prefigura v\u00e1rios dos sentidos que o conceito de inconsciente assume com o desenvolvimento da psican\u00e1lise. Por meio da met\u00e1fora hist\u00f3rico-arqueol\u00f3gica do segundo capitulo, acompanhamos os desdobramentos da descoberta freudiana e apresentamos a elabora\u00e7\u00e3o e refinamento do m\u00e9todo psicanal\u00edtico, que permitiu a Freud maior acesso e conhecimento sobre a regi\u00e3o inconsciente do psiquismo.
